Permanent magnet motors, due to their high efficiency, high power density, and excellent control performance, are widely used in industrial automation, new energy vehicles, and home appliances. Key experiences have been accumulated through practical engineering practice, providing reference for similar projects.

First, the choice of permanent magnet directly impacts motor performance. Neodymium iron boron (NdFeB), currently the most commonly used permanent magnet material, offers high remanence and coercivity, but is susceptible to temperature fluctuations. For high-temperature environments, samarium cobalt (SmCo) permanent magnets are recommended, or optimized heat dissipation designs (such as forced air cooling or liquid cooling) are recommended to ensure stability. Furthermore, the magnetization process for permanent magnets requires strict control to avoid local demagnetization that can lead to performance degradation.

Second, attention to detail is crucial in motor design and manufacturing. The choice of centralized or distributed stator winding requires a trade-off based on the application scenario. Centralized winding offers high efficiency but higher harmonics, while distributed winding provides smoother operation but higher costs. In terms of rotor structure, surface-mounted permanent magnet motors (SPMs) offer a simple structure and are suitable for high-speed operation; internal permanent magnet motors (IMMs) have greater resistance to demagnetization and are suitable for high-torque requirements.

In terms of control strategies, field-of-control (FOC) is the mainstream solution, enabling precise torque and speed regulation. However, careful consideration must be given to matching sampling accuracy with algorithm response speed to avoid degradation of dynamic performance due to latency. Furthermore, field-weakening control technology is crucial for expanding the high-speed operating range, but this requires real-time adjustment of motor parameters to prevent overcurrent and instability.

Finally, testing and maintenance are equally crucial. It is recommended to conduct comprehensive temperature rise, vibration, and efficiency testing before shipment, and establish a long-term operating data monitoring mechanism to promptly detect problems such as permanent magnet demagnetization and bearing wear. Through rational design, rigorous engineering, and scientific operation and maintenance, the performance advantages of permanent magnet motors can be fully realized.
